Do you like the early season snow?
- Yes, it's fun!
- Yes, I love winter
- No, snow should not fall before Halloween
- No, I hate winter
- I refuse to admit that it is snowing in October in Connecticut
Tiny flurries began to fly in Danbury, Newtown and Brookfield and other northern towns at the start of the work day. The snowflakes became larger and the snow shower grew heavier as the morning wore on.
Sleet was also falling in many parts of southern Fairfield County, which could cause slippery conditions. A snow-sleet wintry mix was in the forecast for the entire region, even the coastline. Sleet was beginning to leave an icy coating across the town of Fairfield.
Less than an inch of snow was expected, but it was beginning to stick on tree leaves and other plants.
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, famous for his snow day shenanigans, got in on the fun of the first snow. He Tweeted via @MayorMark, "Just spotted first snowflake. Close schools?? Hahahahaha. #gotoschool #geturschoolinon"
But Thursday will bring a mixed bag of precipitation to all of Fairfield County, with all rain falling across all of Fairfield County by mid-afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures were in the low 30s in the morning, but expected to hit the mid-40s by afternoon.
There could be heavy downpours in the late afternoon and early evening with up to an inch of rain possible. Rain will continue overnight.
It will clear up Friday with partly cloudy skies and a high of about 50 degrees.
